There are probably very few villains who can actually surpass and steal the charm and glorification of much celebrated heroes. The Clown Prince of Crime aka Joker tops the list. With the perfection of Jack Nicolson, Jared Leto and the incomparable Heath Ledger, the character is now imprinted and immortalized in the hearts of fans forever. However, the fans were stunned when the teaser trailer of 'Joker' was launched by Warner Brothers Pictures on YouTube on April 3 starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker and Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy as the supporting cast , directed by Todd Philips who masters in the art of modern comedy and is produced by Todd Philips himself,Bradley Cooper and Emma Koskoff.

In the beginning we don't see Arthur as the nemesis of Batman but as an innocent, mentally unsound, failed professional clown and a wannabe stand-up comedian who lives a lonely life with his sick mother and is a victim of the mean world in the corrupt fictional Gotham city. He was not 'Joker' he was just 'Arthur',a perfect example of an ill-treated,damaged human being.A man worthy of our sympathy and understanding. We see Arthur playing peak-a-boo with a random child and is suddenly interrupted by the child's mother who disturbingly asks Arthur not to play with her child and leave him alone which is a clear depiction of the mean environment he is trapped in. He gets beaten by bullies and is not respected by outsiders while he is on his duty as a clown for hire roaming around in the streets of Gotham. Arthur, who goes through a continuous torture from the society turns himself into a criminal mastermind who brands himself as 'Joker' as he asks Murray Franklin played by Robert De Niro to introduce him as "Joker" to the audience in his comedy show. Thus, becoming a fine product of the environment he lives in. We see him dancing around in the streets as he has never been this happy before and making use of his twisted sense of humour to say "I used to think that my life was a tragedy but now I realize it's a comedy" to his therapist.
Joker premiered at the 76th Venice film festival and was awarded the prestigious Golden Lion. The movie was garnered with positive reviews from various critiques. Joaquin Phoenix received several acclamation as Joker who played the role with enthusiasm and devotion and with this overwhelming performance there is a high chance of Joaquin Phoenix to grab a position in the best actor category list at the 92nd Academy Awards.

According to Forbes "Joker may affirm DC as Warner Bros. most valuable franchise." It is on track to open with anywhere between $75 million to$90 million. Todd Philips also stated in an interview with The New York Times that 'Joker' is a movie which Marvel couldn't make. He describes his point by saying that his film, which is dark, controversial, violent and is based on a R- rated character, is something that the Disney owned Marvel Studios simply can't do. Marvel became a giant it is by making PG-13-rated,four quadrant films for everyone. It's each and every blockbuster entertainment that is all part of a shared cinematic universe. Pretty much everything that 'Joker' is not.

However, with a promising performance and critical appraisals from the fans and the Venice Film Festival it has left everyone stunned and made even a bigger mark for the grippingly urban-nightmare comic fantasia 'Joker' who is back with a movie based on his very own dark past and troubled life to demonstrate the horrors he went through to become a crime lord. Joker released worldwide on October 4,2019.
